[edit] History
New Zealand is a relatively young country. Before Captain Cook claimed New Zealand for the British Crown, the Maori mostly inhabited the island. As more and more Europeans migrated, the population of white, English speaking inhabitants became pronounced. During the 1960s and 70s, the country suffered a severe labor shortage. This brought many Pacific Islanders to its shores, particularly in Auckland.
[edit] Culture
New Zealand has a diverse culture with influences coming from England, Scotland, Ireland and Māori cultures (Today, Auckland is the largest Polynesian city in the world).
During the last fifteen years, there has been an influx of Asians, who have greatly added to New Zealand’s economy, particularly in business.
